I am thinking about getting liscensed to be a day care/preschool provider. I am a certified teacher, but have now been staying home for the past year. When I was expecting with Marlee, I took the year off, and just subbed in town. It was a good choice for me. I have really enjoyed staying home with her. I love being with her all the time and seeing her grow, and learn new things. I haven't felt like I was missing anything or been sad that I don't get to teach any more, until last night. I went to this training that Child Development Services puts on. It is a free training, but it helps you with your STARS hours that you have to complete to be a day care/preschool provider. IT WAS AWESOME! I wasn't expecting it to be awesome. I was expecting it to just be 2.5 hours of listening and not really being able to interact...kinda like a college class. :)
Well, that was not what it is at all. I learned something new, well a few things new, but I am going to share one with you...cause the other one is too hard to share online. I don't think I could explain it in writing. But here is the big one...and I have taken early childhood classes, and all sorts of things and never learned this in college.
BABIES CAN FEEL ALL THEIR EMOTIONS FROM THE DAY THEY ARE BORN.Crazy, huh! I guess I thought things like jealousy were learned emotions. But nope, they are right there from the beginning. If you knew this and I am the only one who didn't know this please don't tell me. :)
I think that is really cool. We talked about how you may not see all the emotions, because your child might not ever have to be put in that situation. I don't think Marlee has ever had to feel jealous...maybe with Gavin and Brooklyn, but she has not ever shown it.
I still love being home with Marlee. But my brain was stimulated last night. It was great! I needed that recharging and to use some of the things I have learned before to help other people. (There were other people, who had some problems with a child at their center, and I gave her some advice). I felt like a whole person again. I don't want to go back to work, but I will be going to more of these trainings, and using the new information with Marlee.
I am an educator, and I also love to learn. But lately I haven't been learning anything new. It was like recharging my battery. I am excited to learn new things again!
If you are a stay at home mom, what do you do to recharge and keep YOU, you?
