I have been talking about running/walking a 5k.
This weekend.
I thought I might chicken out...and thought about it!
But, I am now registered, and can't get my money back.
SOOOO, on Saturday at 9 am I will be chugging along with some other crazy people.
I just hope that the wind isn't blowing like it has been here!
I am also very excited to tell you that I get to go shopping. I mean real shopping. In the town we live in it is about 2 hours to the nearest mall. And not a great one at that! So for mothers day, and just in general I need some new clothes, and I get to get them live, and in person (versus the internet!) this weekend! YIPPEE!
Wish me luck on walking/running the race. I know that by no means will I even be close to winning...but it will be fun! I'll post my time when I get back on Monday!
Oh yeah, I think we are also going to visit the zoo while we are there. Marlee's first trip out of state (to Idaho) AND to the zoo! I'm exstatic!

Running
I have quit my training program. It seemed like I couldn't ever get out the door to actually do it.
BUT, I am training for a 5k. It is in 3 weeks.
Last week I ran a whole mile without stopping.
This is the first time in my whole life I have ever done that. On Saturday I ran a mile, then walked a ways, and then ran some more.
Today, I am supposed to run 2 miles. I don't know if I can do two without stopping in between but I am going to try!
The race is in Idaho. I know I will have to walk part of it, because there probably isn't enough time to get ready to run it all in 3 weeks, but I am excited to be able to run part of it! I have walked a 5k before, but I didn't run even one step of it. And that was back when I was in college...a long long time ago!
So, my question to you is do you have any fitness goals that you are working on? I would love to hear from you!

Week 3
Today is the start of week 3 of my running program. I must admit that I haven't followed it exactly, and haven't done every single day, but almost.
And for me that is good, no not good, GREAT!
You see I haven't always been motivated to excercise.
And sometimes I still am not motivated.
But when I get out the door, and do it, I feel so much better! When I need the kick out the door, I call my sister. She always talks me into going. And afterwards I get so much stuff done! It's amazing!
Eventually I would like to start adding weight training into my excercise.
I already know what I want, Jillians crunch time video. I did it at my sisters house and wow, I couldn't do all of it. And it's only 20 minutes. The greatest thing about it was that it had cardio, abs, strength training all in one. The other best thing about it was that it wasn't aroebics (for the uncoordinated-and no I am not talking about you, I'm talking about me!) or some silly dance moves that I can't figure out, it was things like jumping jacks, lunges ya know the easy, but hard stuff at the same time.
Anyhow, I got a little side tracked. A couple of my friends want to know what this running program is. I posted a link on one of my other posts, but will now put the workouts on here at the beginning of each week, and yes I know it's Tuesday. I'm not that crazy! Next week it will be posted Monday, so if you would like to join me, you can.
Now to toot my own horn a little bit: I ran for 2 minutes straight on Saturday. More than once! I don't know if I have ever done that even when I was a swimmer. It was pretty darn cool if you ask me! :)
Now for weeks 1-3 of this program. And please please please drop me a note to tell me if your joining me! It is always more fun to work out together! And if your not into running leave me a comment to tell me what you do to stay (or get) in shape. I would love to know!
Week 1
Monday - Rest. You will have two rest days per week. If you feel you need more rest days, take them. In these early stages you do not want to do more than your body is ready for.
Tuesday - Walk for 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. Since this is your first workout, take it nice and easy. Walk at a pace that gets your heart rate up and makes you breath heavier than normal, but you should no be out of breath.
Wednesday - Walk for 30 minutes at a comfortable pace. Same workout as yesterday.
Thursday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and then jog for 30 seconds. Follow that sequence for the entire workout. This is your first taste of running. Do not run for more than 30 seconds at a time. Run at a pace that is fairly comfortable.
Friday - Rest. Let your body recover from its first encounter with running.
Saturday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 30 seconds. This is the same workout as Thursday. Keep your pace comfortable.
Sunday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. You make a slight increase in the jogging interval here. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 1 minute. You will start making consistent increases in the time of your running intervals.
Week 2
Monday - Rest. Every Monday is a rest day in this program.
Tuesday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 1 minute. Keep the pace fairly comfortable. Wednesday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. This will be an easy day. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 30 seconds.
Thursday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 1 minute.
Friday - Rest or cross train. Either totally rest or engage in another activity such as biking or swimming.
Saturday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Another increase here. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 2 minutes.
Sunday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 2 minutes.
Week 3
Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 3 minutes. Keep the pace nice and easy. If you feel you cannot run for 3 minutes then take some short ( 10 – 15 seconds ) walking breaks in your 3-minute jogging interval.
Wednesday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 2 minutes.
Thursday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 3 minutes.
Friday - Rest. If you feel like cross training, go ahead. If you do cross train, keep the intensity level very easy. You want to let your body recover on these rest days.
Saturday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 4 minutes. Another increase today.
Sunday - Walk/Jog for 30 minutes. Walk for 5 minutes and jog for 4 minutes.

A little catching up from my week away...
Monday: it snowed like crazy here. So I stayed in my pj's and snuggled with Marlee, and read a book.
Tuesday: I got up early, loaded my car with MK stuff and Marlee and my bags and drove very carefully over the mountain to my hometown. A drive that normally takes 2-2 1/2 hours took us 4 that day. Once we got there, we hung out with my family. My mom watched all of the kids, and my sister and I went walking. Which was day one of my new program.
Wednesday: I had lunch with some of my old friends. They have a daughter named Harlee. Which is kinda funny, cause the guy in this relationship is my oldest friend and one of my best ones. He and I lived a field apart since we were 4 years old. So now we have Harlee and Marlee. :) Not planned by any means. And they had her first. But Mike and I couldn't agree on any other names. Then I had my M@ry K@y party and made a little bit of money, while getting to see some more old friends. My mom watched Marlee while I did that and they had a blast playing with her. (I ran out of time to walk this day!)
Thursday: Was a total lounge day at my moms. It was beautiful outside so I took Marlee and Gav outside to play. Then my sis and I went for my walk/run.
Friday: I had to drop off some more MK stuff to people who had ordered from me. And take Marlee to a few places to meet some people and then we went back to my sisters and played outside since it was so beatiful! We did Jillians (from Biggest Loser) shred video and we only did workout 1 and I couldn't do all of it. It kicked my butt! The best thing about it though was that it was things I can do. I am not very coordinated to do step aroebics or things like that...and these were all moves I could do; jumping jacks, lunges...but it also had abs and strength as well as cardio. It was a very well rounded video! I think I might be getting it!
Sat. I drove home. I stopped to see a friend who really needed a listening ear. She is having a rough time at work...with the same people I had a rough time with last year. And then last night Mike, Marlee and I went to our friends house for a dinner get together and a wii party. It was a blast! We boxed eachother and took tons of pics!
Today, I am going to just hang out. I am going to get back on track with my workout. I am going to go buy a better watch and some other necessities and start running today. I am also going to meet a little girl and her mom which who I am going to start watching a few days a week. I think it will be fun!
For all of you who want to know the workout that I am doing go to this website...
And if you decide to start it please let me know so we can kinda "do it together"! I would love to hear how its going for you, and if your sticking to it!

Running
I have been looking for some sort of exercise to do that gets me out of the house. My sister is totally into running, and I have tried to get into it before but to no avail. But Tuesday I am going to try it again. I looked up a running program to get me from walking to running. It is an eight week program and by the end of it I should be able to run 2 miles without stopping. I have an ipod that Mike gave me last year, and have not really ever used it, because of lack of interest in going for long walks by myself. I have recently found podcasts...thanks again to my sister. :) (She is my mentor in a lot of things!). So again I am going to try it. Running that is!
If I can make it through the 8 week program to run 2 miles without stopping, then I will see about training for a 5k. My sister is going to run a half in April, and I know that I won't be ready by then, but this summer maybe I could run a 5k. I don't know if I will ever get into running as much as my sister to train and run a half marathon or a full marathon...I don't think I have that much ambition, but getting moving will be great for me.
I look at my sister and see her and her kids and they are very active. I want Marlee to grow up being active too. Mike and I sometimes get into ruts where we just hang out at the house, and I want Marlee to grow up in a house hold where we are all active. My sisters 2 year old can walk a very long ways, and its because they go all the time. She just lets her little one walk as long or as far as she can, and she takes the stroller for when she gets tired. But it is amazing.
That is what I want for my family.
A love of being outside, and also a love of being active.
Less TV.
Less computer time.
More being together.
Being active.
Loving life!
